Volunteers for the Museum wanted

The Museum is always looking for new volunteers to help with organising the exhibitions for the following season, helping to catalogue the Museum’s Collection and working on the Museum’s website. At the moment we are looking for people who can fulfill  specific roles.

1       Help With the Website

The Museum would like to develop the use of the website as an educational tool by extending the range of material we have on the site that covers the history of all aspects of Sussex cricket. In particular we would like to improve our coverage of local cricket and the origins of the game in Sussex. Many local Sussex clubs can trace their history to the early years of the game of cricket and we would like to record their part in establishing cricket in Sussex. Women have also played cricket in Sussex for several hundred years and we would like to cover this important aspect of the development of the game.

We are looking for volunteers who can undertake research, write pieces or who can publish articles on the website, particularly on those  aspects described above but not exclusively.  No experience of websites needed nor a great knowledge of the game. This could be an opportunity to learn more about the  history of the game of cricket in Sussex or to write articles about aspects of the game that you already have a good knowledge of and about which we have little coverage on the website.

The website is an important means of disseminating information about the history of cricket in Sussex and the more information we have on the website the better.

If you think you can spare a few hours each week to undertake any or all of these roles, we would like to hear from you. The Museum has an extensive library which would be at your disposal. The volunteers meet on Wednesday mornings throughout the off-season.

2       Match Day Stewards

We would like extra stewards in the museum during County Championship Matches for lunch and tea and Royal London Cup 50 over matches during the single break.

No specific knowledge or skills are required, a friendly and approachable manner are more important.

This will give you the opportunity to meet crickets fans, both home and away,   and of all ages.

There are always two stewards on duty so you will have guidance and support for each session.

3       A Practical Volunteer with Carpentry Skills

Hello is there anyone out there

Due to failing health and after 13 happy years in the museum, I am looking for my replacement, a practical volunteer with carpentry skills such as screwing pictures to the walls with a level and creative eye, replacing locks and fitting shelves etc.

You will work with the curator and other senior volunteers each winter to help create the Summer exhibitions as well as helping with routine maintenance in the museum, taking about four hours each week normally on a Wednesday. I will be happy to work with you this winter and be around to advise, if asked.

We need someone able to work harmoniously with a team of other volunteers and with an interest in the history of Sussex Cricket.

You can contact me using the contact page of the website below or ring 07967 383998 during office hours.
